Enquiry Brochure

Welcome

Thank you kindly for your enquiry. The informaton will answer lots of your questions and please do not hesitate to give me a call for a chat so we can discuss your wedding plans more fully.  Drop me a new email at hello@owenmathias.com and we’ll arrange a time.

My Style

If you’re made it through to this enquiry brochure page then I am going to assume that photography is an extremely important part of your wedding day and you are not just ticking the box of getting a photographer.

You are probably the kind of people who are excited about the possibility of creating something a little bit special for your big day.

My approach to wedding photography is customer service driven and therefore is perhaps a little different than most.

I have learnt photography over many years and my inspiration is a varied mix of music and rock photography with street photography although I see emotion and a connection as the vital component that makes a good photograph great.

You won’t hear me talking about ‘photography is my passion’ or that ‘I’m a storyteller first’ or other wedding photographer cliches. I never had any desire to photograph weddings as I had seen them photographed by others. We were so disappointed by our wedding photographs, which in part was our own fault, but it inspired me to do it my way with very little compromise. I have built my business reputation through service delivery, quality photography and friendliness.

You’ll be reassured by how organised I am before and during the day. You’ll be asked to provide me with a heap of information in advance, all of it important and relevant for me. It will mean you will not have to waste precious time during the fastest day of your life talking to me, answering questions or making decisions. You’ll see me around, sure, but I promise not to be ‘all up in your face’ as I will be a relaxing presence taking the whole day in.

If you’re looking for a bossy photographer to bully you into posing into silly shapes and smiling continuously for your whole day, then maybe I’m not the person for you. On your wedding day I hope to become a friend, support and assist you, and unobtrusively take stunning images that capture the atmosphere and emotion of your big day.

Prices and Packages

If all weddings were the same, if each couple I worked with wanted the same photographs in similar albums then a set price list would be a useful thing to have. But that would be quite boring.

Fortunately, every wedding day that I’ve ever photographed has been completely different, and so has the package that we’ve been able to put together.

The following is a list of what you will receive as part of the Owen Mathias Photography Experience and for me a list of items cannot come close to describing the journey you will take on the road to your wedding day.

I consider myself to have the best job in the world. I mean I  actually get to work with people to create the best day in their lives so words and lists struggle to convey this significance.

This is why I invite you to look at the many case study weddings I’ve included on my website and let the images and words there be the voice of where I am coming from.

Please feel absolutely confident about chatting with me and asking questions about the anything and everything.

Happy Client Testimonials

DO YOU TRAVEL FOR WEDDINGS?

Absolutely. I am situated in Cardiff and I love to travel whether that be in the UK or further afield. There will be a fee for fuel when travelling further than 100 miles and an overall travel & accommodation fee when appropriate.

WE DEFINITELY WANT TO GO AHEAD. WHAT DO YOU NEED FROM US?

If you wish to go ahead just email me on hello@owenmathias.com and I will send you a confirmation letter with a request for a £250 booking fee to secure your date along with an agreement and booking form.

DO YOU HAVE A CONTRACT?

Yes, I do. Sort of. It’s an agreement that protects both parties. You have part copyright included with your photographs so you can do as you wish with them. It covers you with a full description of what you should expect from me and what I would hope you will do for me.

WILL WE MEET BEFORE THE WEDDING DAY?

Your wedding is perhaps the best day of your life and it is an honour for me to be part of it. My intention is always to create a great relationship with all of my couples which will also play a part in the photographs I capture. So yes I insist we meet up before the big day. The pre wedding shoot is a great way to to meet for the first time.

A TOGETHER SESSION? WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?

A Together Session is a pre wedding shoot which helps to break the ice and put you totally at ease in front of the camera. You will absolutely love both the shoot and the photos you will receive after. As ever my relaxed approach is with an artistic eye rather than the cheesy posed photos you may have seen elsewhere.

So a photoshoot with no robo-posing, no awkward moments, no embarrassment! I will invite you to engage with your partner using a technique that is relaxed, fun, personal and most of all rewarding for you both. Just have a look through my case studies to hear what people who have experienced this have said here – http://www.togethersessions.com/about/

I DON’T LIKE HAVING MY PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN. HOW WILL YOU DEAL WITH THIS?

If you feel uncomfortable with having your photo taken, well, that’s fine. Most people do. I invite you take take a look at the photo shoots on my website. Pretty much every single couple I have photographed has had the consideration that they do not like having their photograph taken. It’s fine to feel a little discomfort. I promise that a) it will not show in the shots and b) you won’t feel uncomfortable for long. So don’t worry about being a little apprehensive. Allow yourself to feel however you feel. I’ll take care of the rest.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TAKING PHOTOGRAPHS?

On and off since I was a child but pretty much full on for around 6 years. Photography is the passion of my life, although I have very ambitious plans for my business.

DO YOU TAKE FORMAL PHOTOGRAPHS AND HOW DO YOU APPROACH IT?

I do several formal group shots. The way that I shoot is to capture moments rather than to shoot for coverage i.e. I don’t shoot to capture everybody at the wedding. I feel that formal shots bridges the gap somewhat and allows for everyone who is at the wedding to be in the photographs at least once.

WHAT EXACTLY CAN WE DO WITH THE JPEG IMAGES YOU'LL PRESENT US WITH?

In short, my clients can have the high-resolution images to view, print, build their own albums, share online, use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram but on two conditions;

  1. The images are not adjusted in any way. This means they’re not edited, recoloured, cropped or poked around with. If clients want the images cropped for a profile pic, I will provide this free of charge.
  2. Appropriate credits are always given whenever the images are publically displayed. I would appreciate a link to my Facebook page if the image is shared there, my twitter profile mentioned if tweeted or website listed elsewhere.

There are 3 things that I request that you do not do with your images:

  1. Screenshot my website or crop the photo, including just the bit you like.
  2. Not ask or investigate the licensing terms you have agreed before sharing your digital files online (I can send you a simple guide)
  3. Not attributing a photograph you have shared online with an appropriate credit to the artist

This was I hope we will remain friends 😀

IS IT WORTH PAYING FOR A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER?

This really depends on you. You’re planning the biggest day of your life and spending money on so many things, many people want a record of this to show their children and look back on in years to come.

A professional wedding photographer does come with a lot of expenses. There’s the expensive cameras, lenses, computer equipment, back up drives and other things that need to be refreshed, insured and maintained.

A professional wedding photographer also has to include the expenses of running a car, paying a mortgage, feeding a family as well as saving for a pension and towards sickness pay. Personally, I like to go on holiday once a year, nowhere expensive but a week in a tent in Devon has to be paid for.

There’s also the years of investment in training and honing a style.

A professional should be able to guarantee that most of the day will be photographed well. That means all images are framed and exposed well, with no blurry, grainy or dark shots. They know how to handle the hundreds of images and present them to you quickly and in a way that will hopefully make you laugh, cry and relive the whole day.

If you’ve got a friend or an uncle with a nice camera, and you’ve seen some nice photos on Facebook, who’s offered to photograph your big day then give it a try. What have you got to lose? If those images don’t work out . . . . well, you’ve feel like we did after our wedding, very sorry!

Have a read of this.
